Alexis Mac Allister confirms successful Liverpool contract talks as father proven right

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has clarified that, contrary to some speculation, he and the club are not presently negotiating a new deal, validating the earlier assessment made by his father, Carlos Mac Allister.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s forthcoming Champions League meeting with Galatasaray, the Argentine World Cup winner told the club’s official website that his existing contract—secured until June 2028—remains unchanged and that no extension discussions have been opened.
“In terms of me, we are not in contract talks but I’m not in a rush – that’s only a fact,” Mac Allister said, congratulating teammate Ryan Gravenberch on finalising a six-year extension of his own through to 2032.
The 25-year-old’s comments echo those of his father, who days earlier indicated that talks had yet to commence, and they arrive at a time when defensive stalwarts Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konaté are entering the final year of their current deals.
While Mac Allister and fellow midfield mainstay Dominik Szoboszlai each have two years left beyond this summer, the lack of fresh negotiations has fuelled outside conjecture—however speculative—about a potential future move to Real Madrid once the 2025/26 campaign concludes.
Despite the rumour mill, Mac Allister has avoided the assertive stance adopted last season by Mohamed Salah, who publicly placed the onus on the club to extend his stay. Instead, the Argentine has struck a measured tone, neither dismissing the possibility of a longer Anfield tenure nor rushing into fresh terms.
For now, Liverpool supporters can take solace in the midfielder’s immediate commitment and the knowledge that, should form and fitness hold, the club retains ample time to secure one of its most influential engine-room operators well beyond the horizon of his current agreement.
