Bernardo Silva set for pick of clubs upon inevitable Manchester City exit this summer

Manchester City’s midfield metronome Bernardo Silva is heading inexorably toward free agency this summer, and Europe’s heavyweights are already queuing for his signature, Football Insider understands.

Silva, 31, arrived at the Etihad from Monaco in 2017 and has since become one of Pep Guardiola’s most reliable operators, capable of dictating tempo from central areas or drifting wide to stretch opponents. Across 41 appearances this season he has scored three goals and laid on six assists while shuttling between roles in City’s possession-dominant scheme.

Yet with his contract expiring in June and no extension on the table, the Portugal international is poised to end a glittering nine-year spell that has delivered four Premier League titles, an FA Cup, four League Cups and a Champions League crown. Guardiola admitted last week he has “no idea” whether Silva will stay, and sources close to the club now regard an exit as the likeliest outcome.

Eddie Howe’s side are reviewing their goalkeeping department amid uncertainty over Nick Pope’s long-term fitness.

For City, Silva’s potential departure would close the chapter on one of the most influential careers of the club’s modern era and force Guardiola to reshape a midfield that has underpinned their domestic supremacy. The coming months will determine whether the Portuguese playmaker opts for one last dance in Manchester or a fresh challenge elsewhere, but the decision, increasingly, rests solely in his hands.
