Why Benjamin Sesko Is Not Starting for Man Utd vs. Aston Villa

Michael Carrick has left Benjamin Šeško among the substitutes for Manchester United’s Premier League meeting with Aston Villa, restoring Amad Diallo to the XI and handing Bryan Mbeumo the central striking role.
The decision, Carrick stressed, was rooted in balance rather than form. Šeško’s eight league goals this season include a dramatic March winner against Crystal Palace, yet his most telling contributions have arrived after the interval. Mbeumo, by contrast, has excelled as a pressing No. 9 during United’s recent surge, a stretch that has seen City, Arsenal and Spurs all beaten by a high-tempo collective press built around the Cameroonian’s endless running.
Amad’s recall adds another layer of industry. The Ivorian has completed 90 minutes in five of his last seven league starts, relishing defensive duties that complement the attacking thrust of Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha. Šeško’s straight-line speed is undeniable, but Villa’s compact back line and reputation for soaking up pressure persuaded Carrick to favour a front three capable of explosive counter-attacks.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the United boss underlined the difficulty of the call: “We’ve got a good forward line to choose from and it’s just getting that balance right from game to game. It wasn’t an easy decision, but the boys have adapted really well.”
Šeško, for his part, is expected to play a pivotal role off the bench whatever the state of the contest, hunting the goal that could extend his productive personal tally in red.
