Mumbai, India – The West Indies secured their place in the Super Eights stage of the T20 World Cup with a commanding nine-wicket victory over Nepal at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. After restricting Nepal to 133-8, the hosts chased down the target in just 15.2 overs, finishing on 134-1.
Captain Shai Hope anchored the chase with an unbeaten 61, reaching his fifty off 44 balls and striking three sixes and five fours. He shared an unbroken 91-run stand with Shimron Hetmyer, who finished 46 not out from 32 deliveries, including two sixes and four fours. The win came with 28 balls to spare, underlining the West Indies’ dominance.
Hope had won the toss and elected to field, a decision vindicated by disciplined bowling. Matthew Forde set the tone, conceding only 10 runs in four overs and dismissing Nepal captain Rohit Paudel for five. Nepal slumped to 22-3 by the end of the powerplay and later to 23-4 and 46-5, as Jason Holder struck at key moments.
Dipendra Singh Airee provided the only resistance, top-scoring with 58 and combining with Sompal Kami for a 54-run seventh-wicket partnership. Kami remained unbeaten on 26, but the total proved insufficient.
The result eliminates Nepal from the tournament, while the West Indies march on as the first team to book a Super Eights berth.
