Ajax first tested Almería’s resolve in 2024, but negotiations stalled on the asking price. The Amsterdam club, impressed by Arribas’ creative output and versatility across the front line, have kept the Spaniard on their shortlist and are preparing a fresh approach ahead of next season. They envision Arribas slotting into their midfield as a cornerstone of a youthful rebuild.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, retain the remaining 50% of the player’s rights. Should Ajax meet Almería’s €20 million baseline, Los Blancos would collect approximately €10 million—an unforeseen injection of funds for a player now two clubs removed from their squad. Club officials are tracking the talks closely, aware that any agreement struck above the current valuation would further swell their balance sheet.

Interest in Arribas is not new. Last year, Como boss Cesc Fàbregas explored a move before pivoting to fellow Madrid academy graduate Nico Paz. Yet Ajax’s persistence signals a belief that Arribas’ technical quality and La Liga experience can translate to the Eredivisie.
