Michael Kayode: United’s stance on a move for Brentford right-back

Manchester United are actively monitoring Brentford’s 21-year-old right-back Michael Kayode as they map out long-term succession plans for Diogo Dalot, TEAMtalk understands.
Dalot, 26, has responded to caretaker boss Michael Carrick’s return to a traditional full-back role by contributing one goal and three assists in 25 appearances this season, most recently teeing up Bruno Fernandes in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Tottenham. Yet Europe’s elite continue to circle the Portuguese defender, with Real Madrid retaining a watching brief and Bayern Munich’s reported interest since cooled.
United’s recruitment staff, however, are not waiting for a final decision on Dalot’s future. Sources confirm that United have joined Newcastle United in stepping up checks on Kayode, whose performances at the Gtech Community Stadium have also attracted Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and the Spanish and German champions.
Brentford’s Kayode, contracted until 2030, is valued in excess of £50 million by the West London club, who are under no pressure to sell. The Italian youth international, forged in the academies of Juventus, Gozzano and Fiorentina, has started 25 of 29 competitive matches for the Bees this term and is comfortable on either flank or as part of a back three. His long-throw weapon adds another layer to a skill set United view as ideal for the Premier League.
While midfield reinforcements top Erik ten Hag’s summer agenda, the club’s Premier League-centric recruitment model keeps Kayode firmly on the radar should funds allow. For now, United are content to watch, wait and weigh up whether a formal offer will be required to secure the highly rated defender.
