Manchester United frontrunners to sign Chelsea midfielder
Manchester United have emerged as the leading contenders to prise Andrey Santos away from Chelsea this summer, positioning themselves at the head of a growing queue for the 21-year-old Brazilian, according to NT VASCAINOS via X.
United’s recruitment team, mandated to reduce the squad’s average age without sacrificing competitiveness, have been scouring Europe for emerging midfield talent and have now locked onto Santos after a string of eye-catching performances under Liam Rosenior at Stamford Bridge. The pair previously worked together during a loan spell at RC Strasbourg, and the midfielder’s rapid development since has not gone unnoticed.
Chelsea are understood to be open to offers for the former Vasco da Gama academy graduate, who is valued at £34 million (€40 million) by Transfermarkt. While not officially on the market, the west London club’s willingness to negotiate has encouraged suitors, with Juventus also maintaining a watching brief.
Santos’ game is built on relentless energy, an appetite for regaining possession and the confidence to drive forward with the ball—attributes that align closely with Erik ten Hag’s demand for dynamic, progressive midfielders. United’s scouts have reportedly been impressed by the Brazilian’s maturity in tight spaces and his willingness to shoulder defensive responsibility.
Any deal would trigger a 2.5 per cent sell-on clause benefiting Vasco da Gama, entitling the Rio de Janeiro club to roughly £850,000 should the fee reach the current valuation.
With the European summer window set to open in June, Santos could become one of the season’s early flashpoints, and United’s early groundwork may prove decisive if negotiations accelerate.
