India’s title defence ended in style with a 96-run demolition of New Zealand in the 2026 T20 World Cup final, and the ICC has rewarded the champions with four places in its official Team of the Tournament. Joining the quartet from Rohit Sharma’s side are two England performers who drove the semi-finalists, plus representatives from Pakistan, South Africa, West Indies and Zimbabwe.
Player of the Tournament Sanju Samson headlines the XI after exploding from fringe keeper-batter to undisputed star. Samson began the event outside India’s first-choice line-up but responded with Player-of-the-Match displays against West Indies and England before striking a final-record 89 to sink the Kiwis. He finished with 321 runs at an average of 80.25 and a blistering strike-rate of 199.37.
Opening partner Sahibzada Farhan beats him for aggregate runs. The Pakistan left-hander topped the tournament charts with 383 at 76.60, including centuries against Sri Lanka and Namibia, and secured his spot at the top of the order.
Ishan Kishan slots in at No. 3 after compiling 317 runs at a strike-rate of 193.29, while South Africa skipper Aiden Markram captains the side from No. 4, having amassed 286 runs at 47.66.
Hardik Pandya’s all-round value earns him a place at five. India’s talisman scored 217 runs at a strike-rate of 160.74 and chipped in with nine wickets at 32.33.
England’s Will Jacks provides the middle-order muscle. The versatile right-hander struck 226 runs at 56.50 and added nine wickets at 21.66, collecting four Player-of-the-Match awards in eight games. Jacks is joined by team-mate Adil Rashid, whose 13 wickets cost just 19.23 apiece.
West Indies veteran Jason Holder squeezes into the lower middle-order after contributing 141 quick runs and 10 wickets at 20.40. The tail is dominated by bowlers who dominated the tournament.
Jasprit Bumrah, Player of the Match in the final with 4-15, finished as joint-leading wicket-taker with 14 scalps at 12.42. South Africa’s Lungi Ngidi took 12 wickets at 15.58, while Zimbabwe’s Blessing Muzarabani claimed 13 wickets at 14.46, including the 4-17 that stunned Australia in the group stage.
The selection panel resisted the temptation to overload the XI with India stars, highlighting the balance across teams that lit up the 2026 competition.
