Manchester United fans will be annoyed with Barcelona’s latest Marcus Rashford transfer plan

Manchester United and Barcelona are locked in renewed talks over Marcus Rashford’s future after the Catalan club floated a second straight loan rather than the permanent €30 million transfer United expect this summer.

Rashford, on loan at Spotify Camp Nou since January, has impressed as a rotational option on the left wing for the La Liga leaders, even drawing guarded praise from senior striker Robert Lewandowski, who noted the England international’s “prodigious talent” while urging greater consistency of intensity.

United inserted an option-to-buy clause worth €30 million into the original agreement and are adamant that figure must be paid in full if Barcelona want to retain the 26-year-old. However, sporting director Deco has approached Old Trafford officials with a proposal to extend the loan through the 2026-27 campaign, effectively deferring the purchase and spreading the financial load for a club whose books remain under scrutiny.

Transfer insider Ben Jacobs reports that Barcelona view the extra season as a pathway to eventually meeting the €30 million valuation, but United want immediate resolution and cash up front to help manager the squad rebuild. Accepting another temporary arrangement would leave United risking a scenario in which Barca, citing shifting circumstances, could again postpone or renegotiate a fee they have already deemed reasonable.

Supporters eager to see the club bank a guaranteed sum and move on from one of its highest-profile departures are likely to greet the Blaugrana’s suggestion with frustration, especially given the relatively modest asking price in today’s inflated market.

For now, negotiations continue, with United holding firm: pay the clause in full this summer, or Rashford returns to Manchester.
