Lothar Matthäus sees no reason for Harry Kane to leave Bayern Munich
Munich—Bayern Munich icon Lothar Matthäus has dismissed speculation that Harry Kane could be on the move, insisting the England captain has found the perfect home at the German champions.
Speaking on Sky90, Matthäus hailed the striker’s seamless integration since his arrival. “FC Bayern and Harry Kane are a match made in heaven,” he said, noting that Kane is “winning title after title now, something he hadn’t managed before in England.” With the 31-year-old’s current deal running until 2027, Matthäus is convinced an extension is inevitable. “Bayern Munich will do everything they can to extend Kane’s contract beyond 2027,” he predicted, adding that initial talks are penciled in for this spring.
Despite reported interest from Saudi Arabia and FC Barcelona—where 37-year-old Robert Lewandowski is entering the twilight of his career—Matthäus sees no incentive for Kane to uproot. “He knows what he has in the coach. He repays the trust the coach gives him. He plays in a well-functioning team,” Matthäus said, questioning whether Kane would “shine like this anywhere else.”
The 1990 Ballon d’Or winner also highlighted Kane’s broader impact on the Bundesliga, claiming rival clubs are “happy” to host a “global brand” comparable to David Beckham in reach and recognition.
As Bayern prepare for contract discussions, Matthäus’s message is clear: Kane has every reason to stay, and the club has every intention of making sure he does.
