Hansi Flick’s Barcelona future at stake ahead of 15 March presidential election

Barcelona’s presidential election on 15 March has become a pivotal moment for head coach Hansi Flick, whose position could hinge on the outcome of the vote. With campaigning intensifying, the future direction of the club’s sporting project—and Flick’s role within it—has emerged as a central issue.

According to Sky Sport Germany, Flick has settled well in Catalonia and is committed to the current sporting model, but the identity of the next president could alter that trajectory. Incumbent Joan Laporta, seeking re-election, told Mundo Deportivo that the German coach has repeatedly expressed satisfaction with both the project and the personnel around him, singling out the strong working relationship between Flick and sporting director Deco.

Laporta used the interview to contrast his approach with that of rival candidate Víctor Font, alleging that Font intends to dismantle the existing structure by replacing Deco with a triumvirate of executives sharing sporting responsibilities. Laporta insisted that Flick opposes such a reshuffle and views stability in the sporting department as essential to building on this season’s progress.

The president framed the election as a referendum on continuity, arguing that a victory for Font would jeopardise not only Deco’s position but also the alignment between the coaching staff and the club’s long-term vision. With ballots set to be cast on 15 March, Flick’s fate now rests in the hands of Barça’s socios, whose choice will determine whether the current footballing project remains intact or faces an overhaul.
