Robertson and Salah inspire Liverpool to 3-1 win over Wolves and FA Cup quarterfinal berth
Wolverhampton, England – Liverpool answered Tuesday’s Premier League disappointment in emphatic fashion, advancing to the FA Cup quarterfinals with a 3-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.
Left-back Andy Robertson broke the deadlock in the 55th minute, lashing a low drive into the net from outside the area for only his second goal of the campaign. The Scotland captain turned provider two minutes later, delivering an inviting cross that Mohamed Salah rifled home to double the visitors’ advantage.
Curtis Jones sealed the contest in the 74th minute, steering home a confident finish to make it 3-0. Wolves’ Hwang Hee-chan netted a stoppage-time consolation, but the damage had long been done.
The result avenged Wolves’ 2-1 league win over Arne Slot’s side just three days earlier and keeps Liverpool alive on two cup fronts.
“That was a bit more like it,” Robertson told the BBC. “We know we let ourselves down on Tuesday … it was up to us to go and put it right. The FA Cup is do or die.”
Liverpool now await the completion of this weekend’s ties to learn their last-eight opponent, with quarterfinal action scheduled for the first weekend in April.
“We are trying to fight on all fronts,” Robertson added. “If we play like we did tonight, then nobody wants to play against us. We have to start showing that consistency.”
