Exciting years are coming – Barcelona president Joan Laporta revels in crushing election win over Victor Font

Joan Laporta declared that “exciting years are coming” after sweeping to a second consecutive term as Barcelona president, capturing 68 per cent of the vote in a landslide victory over rival candidate Victor Font.

The 63-year-old, who first led the club between 2003 and 2010, hailed the margin as a mandate for continuity and ambition. “This result is resounding and gives us great strength, so much so that it makes us unstoppable,” Laporta told supporters. “Nobody will stop us; we will continue to defend Barça against everyone. Exciting years are coming, and they will be the best years of our lives.”

Font, who had campaigned on a platform of deeper fan engagement and structural reform, conceded defeat gracefully. “We are saddened because we were very excited about transforming the club and bringing it closer to its fans. It’s a shame,” he said. “But we accept the result, as we must, and congratulate the president-elect, Joan Laporta, and his board of directors.”

With the election settled, Barcelona now turn their attention to the next five-year cycle under Laporta’s leadership, hoping the off-field stability will translate into renewed success on the pitch.
