Antoine Semenyo leaves out Bruno Fernandes in Manchester United pick

Manchester City winger Antoine Semenyo has delivered a surprise snub to Bruno Fernandes, omitting the Portuguese playmaker from his Premier League Team of the Season and instead singling out United’s flying full-back Dorgu as the sole Red Devil in his best XI.

Speaking to Sky Sports at an Adidas event, Semenyo revealed a line-up that features only one representative from Old Trafford despite the club’s recent resurgence under interim head coach Michael Carrick. Carrick took the reins in January after Ruben Amorim was dismissed, and United have responded with three consecutive victories to reignite their push for a top-four finish.

While many observers expected Fernandes to be the automatic United inclusion, Semenyo opted for 22-year-old Dorgu, who has contributed three goals and three assists in 24 appearances across all competitions this term. The Danish defender has started 14 Premier League matches, frequently featuring as an attacking wing-back under Amorim before a minor injury sidelined him for the last two games.

Carrick has publicly backed Dorgu to “come back stronger” from the setback, and United supporters will hope the youngster can rediscover the form that saw him torment the likes of Newcastle, Manchester City and Arsenal earlier in the campaign. With Tino Livramento deputising at left-back in recent weeks, tactical hints suggest Dorgu could be deployed even higher up the pitch during the run-in.

Whether Dorgu ultimately settles into a permanent attacking role or reverts to his defensive duties, Semenyo’s selection underlines the impression the Dane has made on his peers—at the expense of United’s more celebrated stars.
