The opening day of cricket’s T20 World Cup delivered drama across the board as West Indies, Pakistan and India all claimed victories in contrasting fashion. Earlier, Pakistan were pushed to the brink by the Netherlands before Faheem Ashraf’s late-order assault hauled his side over the line for a three-wicket triumph. Ashraf’s timely hitting turned a tense chase into victory and spared the 2009 champions an opening-day stumble.

India also had to battle hard, surviving a spirited challenge from the United States to stay unbeaten on day one of the tournament.
