Barcelona, Spain – Joan Laporta will serve a third term as president of FC Barcelona after a commanding victory in Sunday’s socio election, cementing continuity for the sporting project led by head coach Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco.
With 100 per cent of ballots counted, Laporta’s “Defensem al Barça!” ticket captured 32,934 votes, equal to 68.18 per cent of the electorate. Challenger Víctor Font, fronting the “Sí al Futur” platform, finished a distant second with 14,385 votes (29.78 per cent). The margin surpasses Font’s 2021 defeat and signals broad approval for the current board’s direction.
Since returning to office in 2021, Laporta has overseen a swift on-pitch revival. The appointment of Flick and the restructuring of the technical area under Deco culminated last season in a historic domestic treble, restoring the club to Europe’s elite tier after years of financial and competitive uncertainty.
Font had campaigned on a return to foundational principles, pledging heavier investment in La Masia and the re-integration of club legends Lionel Messi and Xavi Hernández into key institutional roles. Yet the message failed to gain traction. Messi, who left Barcelona under Laporta’s previous mandate, remained publicly neutral, neither voting nor endorsing a candidate. Font’s “pro-Messi” positioning therefore lacked the symbolic boost he may have anticipated.
In contrast, Laporta benefited from visible first-team backing. Teenage star Lamine Yamal underscored squad support by posting a photo alongside the president on election day, a gesture widely interpreted as an endorsement from the dressing room.
The decisive result removes any threat of a summer overhaul at Camp Nou. Club sources indicate that Flick’s planned pre-season programme and ongoing transfer strategy will proceed without interruption as Barcelona aim to build on last season’s success.
Laporta, who previously held the presidency between 2003 and 2010, will now begin a fresh six-year term tasked with consolidating sporting gains while navigating the club’s long-term economic restructuring.
