Liverpool ‘definitely’ monitoring £87m RB Leipzig flyer Yan Diomande, says reliable source

Liverpool have placed RB Leipzig’s 19-year-old Ivorian winger Yan Diomande under active observation and could yet firm up their interest in a player valued at around €100 million (£87 million), according to two well-placed journalists.

German football expert Christian Falk reiterated earlier this week that the Reds “are interested” in the teenage speedster and “can afford” the Bundesliga club’s asking price, adding that “there will be an offer” from Merseyside. Those claims have now been echoed by David Lynch, a reporter with close ties to Anfield, who told Anfield Index’s Media Matters podcast that Diomande is “100% the kind of player that Liverpool are watching”.

Lynch stressed that no bid is imminent and cautioned that a summer transfer is “not guaranteed”, but his confirmation that Liverpool are “definitely” keeping tabs on the winger underlines the club’s willingness to move early for emerging talent.

Diomande has scored nine goals and laid on six assists in 24 senior appearances this season, operating on either flank with the rapid dribbling style that has earned him the nickname “roadrunner” among admirers. His versatility makes him a potential long-term successor to Mohamed Salah on the right as well as added competition for Cody Gakpo on the left.

The Reds have recent pedigree in the German market and an established relationship with Leipzig, having signed Naby Keita, Ibrahima Konate and Dominik Szoboszlai from the Red Bull stable. Jurgen Klopp’s links to the Red Bull global network are also viewed as a strategic advantage should negotiations accelerate.

While Liverpool’s recruitment team continue to track Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise as their “ideal” Salah heir, Diomande’s name is unlikely to disappear from Anfield transfer briefings. Lynch’s assessment suggests the club will monitor the winger’s progress for the remainder of the campaign before deciding whether to formalise their interest ahead of rival suitors.
