Jurgen Klopp news denied by Manchester United

Manchester United have moved to quash suggestions that they approached former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp during last year’s search for a new permanent boss. The denial follows fresh reports that United sounded out the German coach before ultimately appointing Ruben Amorim in 2024.
Amorim’s tenure at Old Trafford ended last month after a string of inconsistent results, bringing his 14-month spell to a close. Michael Carrick has since stepped in as caretaker manager and is expected to guide the team through the remainder of the season while the club targets a top-four finish. United’s hierarchy plan to install a high-profile manager ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
Sky Sports revealed earlier today that Klopp’s camp had been contacted by United, but the club insist no such approach was made. A United spokesperson reiterated that the search following Erik ten Hag’s departure did not involve the ex-Liverpool boss.
Chelsea have issued a similar denial after agent Marc Kosicke claimed that both London and Manchester clubs had enquired about Klopp’s availability despite the 56-year-old’s public stance against coaching another English side. Kosicke told reporters: “Even Chelsea and Manchester United inquired, although Jurgen had clearly stated that he would not coach any other club in England.” He added that Klopp is content with his achievements and values the legacy of having managed only three clubs without ever being dismissed.
With United and Chelsea both rejecting Kosicke’s assertions, the motivation behind the agent’s comments remains unclear. For now, United’s focus stays fixed on Carrick’s interim stewardship and the long-term managerial blueprint already mapped out by the board.
