Former Arsenal Star Theo Walcott Urges Fans to Stay Calm as Title Race Intensifies

London—With eight matches remaining and Arsenal sitting atop the Premier League table, former Gunners winger Theo Walcott has called on the club’s supporters to ease the tension swirling around the Emirates, insisting that anxiety inside the terraces can seep into the dressing room and undermine the squad’s push for a first league crown in two decades.

Speaking on the red carpet at the London Football Awards, Walcott told Hayters that he has detected rising unease among fans despite the team holding a seven-point advantage over Manchester City, who have a game in hand.

I think talking to a lot of Arsenal fans they are as stressed as you like, Walcott said. They need to calm down. I genuinely feel like at times the players can feel that and feed off that. They are doing their job right now and are above City and Liverpool. Just relax.

The 34-year-old, who spent 12 years in north London, emphasised that the run-in is no longer about aesthetics but about grinding out victories. Mikel Arteta is here to do a job. It is not going to be pretty, particularly at the end of the season. It is all about winning now. It’s not about how you play or perform. It’s all about results. Look at Tottenham, they couldn’t care less how they play, they just want results. West Ham too. I am quite relaxed, and I think everyone else needs to be. Mikel will be relaxed.

Arsenal have lost only three league fixtures this campaign, a record that Walcott believes deserves more faith from the stands. Asked whether he enjoys watching the current side, the former England international replied: Arsenal have only lost three games! I enjoy seeing them winning. That is what it’s about, winning the Premier League. Of course there are times when I’ve not enjoyed watching Arsenal. I’d be lying if I said otherwise. But that’s how a lot of teams are playing this year, not just Arsenal. That’s the way football is going. It is all about finding a way to be better than the opposition. And Arsenal have managed that better than anyone, hence why they’ve only lost three games and are top of the league.
