Detroit Lions met with RB at HBCU Legacy Bowl
Mobile, Alabama — The Detroit Lions added another name to their pre-draft notebook this week, spending time with North Carolina Central running back Chris Mosley at the HBCU Legacy Bowl. According to Justin Melo of Sports Illustrated, Detroit was part of a nine-team contingent that requested an interview with the 5-foot-11, 180-pound back after watching him practice all week.
Mosley, a Fort Worth, Texas native and Centennial High School product, posted 1,017 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 188 carries in 11 games for the Eagles last fall. He also proved useful in the passing game, hauling in 30 receptions for 324 yards and two additional scores during the 2025 season.
The Lions were joined by the Giants, Ravens, Buccaneers, Titans, Jets, Commanders, Vikings and Jaguars in expressing formal interest. Although Mosley was not among the running backs invited to the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine, the volume of attention he received in Mobile suggests he could hear his name called late on draft weekend or be prioritized as an undrafted free agent.
Detroit has mined the HBCU Legacy Bowl before. In 2022 the club selected Jackson State edge rusher James Houston with the 217th overall pick in the sixth round. Houston appeared in 17 games and made three starts over the next three seasons, registering 21 tackles, 14 quarterback hits, nine sacks and eight tackles for loss.
Mosley’s film from the week’s practices, highlighted by sharp cuts and reliable hands, will now be filed away in Allen Park as the Lions continue shaping their 2026 draft board.
