Wrexham Land Premier League Opponent in Blockbuster Preseason Friendly

Wrexham AFC will return to the United States this summer for a high-profile three-match tour that pits the Welsh club against a trio of current Premier League sides, headlined by a July 29 showdown with Liverpool at New York’s Yankee Stadium.

The fixture marks a dramatic step up from the clubs’ only prior meeting, a 2007 friendly played before 11,210 spectators at the Racecourse Ground. This time the Red Dragons will step onto the same diamond-grass hybrid used by baseball’s New York Yankees and MLS’s New York City FC, testing themselves against one of English football’s joint-record 20-time champions.

Manager Phil Parkinson’s squad, pushing toward top-flight promotion, open the tour on 25 July against Leeds United at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium before heading north for the Liverpool date. The trip concludes on 2 August at Subaru Park in Chester, Pennsylvania, where Sunderland await in a rematch of the 2023 meeting that first introduced Wrexham to American audiences.

All three opponents currently reside in the Premier League, offering Wrexham a timely gauge of the level required should their promotion push succeed this spring. The tour is scheduled to begin after the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup, ensuring a football-hungry U.S. market and avoiding any clash with tournament venues.

The Red Dragons’ growing American fan base—fuelled by the Emmy-winning docuseries Welcome to Wrexham—will finally see the team in person for the first time since 2024. Priority Pass registration is open now, granting early ticket access and entry to exclusive competitions. Official members and season-ticket holders receive first dibs at the lowest prices when presale opens on Tuesday, 10 March, followed by general sale on Thursday, 12 March. Kick-off times and full ticketing details will be released “in due course,” the club said.

CEO Michael Williamson underlined the significance of the trip: “The tour provides a fantastic opportunity for our growing fan base, especially those living in the US, to follow the team in action across three high-profile matches. The fact that we are playing Leeds United, Liverpool and Sunderland…promises three great occasions on big stages.”
