What Regis Le Bris Said After Sunderland's 3-0 Defeat to Arsenal

Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris refused to let a 3-0 home loss to Premier League leaders Arsenal dent his belief in the club’s long-term vision, insisting the Black Cats are “meant for great things in the best league in the world.”

Speaking after the final whistle at the Stadium of Light, Le Bris praised his players for the way they went toe-to-toe with Mikel Arteta’s table-toppers, highlighting their application and the overall development of the contest. “I feel proud of my team and the match development we had,” he told the Sunderland Echo, while acknowledging the gulf in class shown by the division’s pacesetters.

Arsenal’s ruthlessness at set-pieces and blistering counter-attacks proved decisive, leaving Sunderland with little to show for spells of promising possession. Le Bris pinpointed those two facets of the visitors’ game as the primary difference, admitting the Gunners’ versatility and speed “put the Black Cats in great trouble.”
