Bayern Munich have ended months of speculation by tying centre-back Dayot Upamecano to a new long-term contract that will keep the France international at the club until 30 June 2030. The 27-year-old, whose previous deal was due to expire this summer, has also secured a significant salary increase.
The agreement concludes protracted negotiations that had placed Upamecano on the radar of Europe’s elite, with Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid among the clubs monitoring his situation. Bayern sporting director Max Eberl hailed the extension as a statement of continuity.
“Dayot Upamecano is another central figure in our team that we’ve been able to extend,” Eberl said on Friday. “A squad needs anchor points, and we’ve got the next with Dayot. The question often isn’t who you sign but who you develop. Dayot has matured into a top international player here at Bayern. We’re looking forward to continuing our journey together.”
Since arriving from RB Leipzig in 2021, Upamecano has established himself as a defensive mainstay for the Bavarians. With the uncertainty over his future now resolved, the defender says he can refocus on silverware.
“I’m really happy to be staying at Bayern and continuing to play in this team,” Upamecano commented. “We’ve got a great team and a great coach. We’ve got big goals together. In life, it’s always about mentality. I give my all for my team-mates, in every training session, want to keep a clean sheet in every game and want to win as many titles as possible with Bayern.”
Bayern view the extension as part of a wider strategy to retain core talent, ensuring stability as they pursue domestic and European honours in the seasons ahead.
