Ultimate Professional Robertson Sends Clear Message Over Uncertain Liverpool Future

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has declared himself “committed until I’m no longer needed” as the 32-year-old’s contract edges toward its June expiry, insisting that any negotiations over a new deal will remain “in-house” out of respect to the Fenway Sports Group hierarchy who “helped make me who I am.”
The Scotland captain, lauded this week by staff as the “ultimate professional,” has made 330-plus appearances since arriving from Hull City in 2017, collecting two Premier League winner’s medals and a Champions League triumph. Yet his Anfield future looked in jeopardy in January when Liverpool accepted a £5 million bid from Tottenham Hotspur, only to rescind the decision after injuries ravaged Arne Slot’s squad.
Robertson has since been rotated with 21-year-old Milos Kerkez but responded with a man-of-the-match display in Monday’s 3-1 FA Cup fifth-round victory over Wolves, scoring once and creating another to send Liverpool into the quarter-final draw. The result keeps alive one of two remaining routes to silverware after December’s Carabao Cup exit; the Reds trail league leaders Manchester City by 14 points and sit sixth, level on points with Chelsea.
“There was obviously interest there and discussions had with both sets of clubs, but the decision was that I wanted to stay,” Robertson told reporters. “I was never not committed. I’ve been committed to Liverpool for the last eight-and-a-half or nine years now and I’ll be committed until I’m no longer needed. That’s always been my mindset.”
While refusing to set a deadline for fresh terms, Robertson praised sporting director Richard Hughes, FSG president Mike Gordon and CEO of football Michael Edwards for the “amazing relationship” forged since his £8 million transfer. “Out of respect to them the conversations will be in-house. I don’t think it will get played out in public,” he added.
The left-back’s focus now shifts to a last-16 Champions League tie against Galatasaray and an FA Cup run he believes can salvage a stuttering campaign that began under the cloud of Diogo Jota’s death on 3 July. “My thought process is I want to win trophies at Liverpool; that has always been my focus,” he stressed. “If we have more performances like we did Friday then we have a chance… we need to try and find that consistency.”
Whether Robertson’s Liverpool story extends beyond the summer will be decided behind closed doors, but the veteran’s message is unambiguous: his sole priority remains delivering on the pitch for as long as the club requires his services.
