Swansea City goalkeeper scouted by Manchester United

Manchester United’s search for long-term goalkeeping reinforcements has taken the club to the Cymru Premier, where experienced goalkeeping scout Tony Coton ran the rule over Swansea City teenager Kit Margetson during Connah’s Quay Nomads’ meeting with The New Saints.

Coton, the analyst instrumental in bringing Senne Lammens to Old Trafford, was spotted in the stands at the match and later confirmed his mission to former Watford team-mate Malcolm Allen, who was providing live commentary for Scorio.

“I’m going to tell you the truth, he told me he’s watching Kit,” Allen told viewers. “It’s great to see the Cymru Premier pulling in scouts from the biggest clubs in the world. He’s competent in what he’s doing. He’s growing up, and every time I see him play, he’s growing up in front of me.”

Margetson, 19, is currently on loan from Swansea to Connah’s Quay and has kept 10 clean sheets in 30 appearances this season, form that has also attracted Brighton, Crystal Palace and Liverpool.

The keeper is the son of Wales national team goalkeeping coach Martyn Margetson, and his shot-stopping pedigree appears to have struck a chord with United as they look to build on the early promise shown by Lammens between the posts.

United have endured two turbulent campaigns with Andre Onana, and while Lammens is beginning to restore stability, the club are clearly planning for the future by casting a wide scouting net.

With several Premier League rivals monitoring Margetson’s development, Coton’s personal attendance signals serious intent from Old Trafford, setting the stage for a potential summer scramble for the youngster’s signature.
