Striker Welbeck extends Brighton contract to 2027

Brighton & Hove Albion’s evergreen forward Danny Welbeck will remain at the Amex Stadium through the end of the 2026-27 campaign after activating a 12-month option in his deal, the club has confirmed.
The 35-year-old, whose previous terms were set to expire this summer, signed a fresh two-year contract in 2024 that contained the little-reported extension clause. By exercising that option, Welbeck has ended months of speculation surrounding his future and ensured continuity for Fabian Hurzeler’s attacking corps.
Welbeck’s decision comes on the back of a standout season in which he has topped Brighton’s scoring charts with 11 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions. The latest of those strikes sealed Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest, underlining his enduring value in the final third.
England manager Thomas Tuchel, who admitted in November that he weighed calling Welbeck up for the recent World Cup qualifiers, will name his final pre-tournament squad later this month. The striker’s form keeps him firmly in contention for a recall ahead of this summer’s global showpiece.
Since arriving from Watford in October 2020, Welbeck has amassed 48 goals in 191 outings for the Seagulls and become a key dressing-room influence. Hurzeler has repeatedly stressed his wish to retain the veteran, praising both his on-field contributions and off-field leadership.
With the extension now ratified, Brighton supporters can anticipate at least one more season of Welbeck’s intelligent movement, pressing energy and clutch finishing as the club targets another top-half Premier League finish.
