Senegal to parade Afcon trophy despite title being stripped

Senegal will parade the Africa Cup of Nations trophy on Saturday ahead of their friendly against Peru in Paris, defiantly celebrating the silverware even after being stripped of the continental crown. The Lions of Teranga, who lifted what they believed was a second Afcon title on 18 January, remain locked in a public dispute with tournament organisers over the decision to revoke the championship.

The head of Senegal’s Football Federation has promised a “crusade” to contest the ruling, insisting the team’s on-field triumph be recognised. Fans arriving at the Parc des Princes are expected to be greeted by the trophy display as part of pre-match festivities, underscoring the federation’s refusal to relinquish its claim to the title.
