Sandro Tonali wanted by Manchester United

Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali has emerged as a leading summer target for Manchester United, according to a report in The Telegraph, intensifying the battle for one of the Premier League’s most industrious engine-room operators.
Tonali, 23, has started 37 matches for Eddie Howe’s side this season, registering four assists, and has amassed 94 appearances in total since arriving on Tyneside in the summer of 2023, scoring seven goals. Those numbers have not gone unnoticed across England’s top flight, with Arsenal already exploring a late-window swoop before pulling back on deadline day.
United’s interest has now crystallised, with journalist Mike McGrath stating that the Red Devils have placed the Italian international at the summit of their midfield shortlist. The development comes as the club prepare for the impending departure of Casemiro, who is expected to leave Old Trafford at the end of the current campaign.
Tonali’s representative, Giuseppe Riso, acknowledged the swirl of speculation but emphasised his client’s commitment to Newcastle. Speaking to TuttoSport, Riso said: “Newcastle are having a hard time letting go of Sandro, and he wants to lead the club to the Champions League. We’ll evaluate and decide what to do in the summer. These transfer discussions will take place later. We’ll see how the season ends and then we’ll decide what to do.”
The agent added that no preference has been formed among potential suitors, cautioning that “what we’re saying today won’t apply tomorrow.” Riso also underlined the emotional pull of St James’ Park, noting: “Newcastle couldn’t let him go now, and there’s no point moving, especially since Sandro is very attached to the club.”
With several months remaining before the summer window opens, negotiations remain fluid, yet United’s need for a dynamic, ball-winning presence in midfield positions Tonali as a prime candidate to fill the void left by Casemiro’s anticipated exit.
