Real Madrid 0-1 Getafe, La Liga 2025-26: Satriano Stunner Keeps Hosts Four Points Behind Barcelona
MADRID—A thunderbolt from Martin Satriano and a late red card for teenage midfielder Franco Mastantuono condemned Real Madrid to a 1-0 home defeat against Getafe on Monday, leaving Alvaro Arbeloa’s side four points adrift of Barcelona at the summit of La Liga.
Playing without the injured Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham, Madrid dominated territory and possession but were undone by a moment of brilliance six minutes before the interval. Satriano, collecting a loose clearance 20 metres out, arrowed a first-time volley beyond Thibaut Courtois into the top-right corner for the only goal of the night.
The hosts controlled 77.1% of the ball and finished with 18 shots to Getafe’s nine, yet their profligacy in front of goal was punished. David Soria twice denied Vinicius Junior inside the opening 25 minutes and later repelled Arda Guler’s angled effort, while Antonio Rudiger was perhaps fortunate to escape sanction after catching Diego Rico with a raised knee.
Madrid’s frustration grew after the restart. Rudiger glanced Mastantuono’s corner wide from point-blank range in the 75th minute; moments later Rodrygo’s diving header from another Mastantuono delivery flashed across the face of goal with Dani Carvajal unable to apply the decisive touch.
The match ended in acrimony. Mastantuono received a straight red for dissent in the 95th minute, and Getafe’s Adrian Liso followed for a second yellow after kicking the ball away on the final whistle.
The result ends a pair of long-standing sequences: Madrid had won 16 consecutive home league meetings with Getafe, while visiting coach Jose Bordalas had never tasted victory against Los Blancos in 16 previous attempts (two draws, 14 defeats). Getafe climb to 11th, eight points clear of the relegation zone, after a run of three wins in four. Madrid, meanwhile, have now lost back-to-back league fixtures and remain four points behind leaders Barcelona.
