PSG & Bayern on alert as Man Utd ready to entertain £87m offers for ‘generational’ star

Manchester United are prepared to listen to offers in the region of £87 million for captain Bruno Fernandes next summer, a decision that has placed Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich on high alert, according to the Daily Briefing.

Since arriving at Old Trafford in January 2020, the Portuguese midfielder has established himself as the club’s most influential performer, outshining newer signings such as Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo and maintaining a level of quality that interim head coach Michael Carrick last year labelled “generational.”

Although United’s hierarchy regard the 31-year-old as “indispensable,” the club’s incoming football leadership—Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Omar Berrada and technical director Jason Wilcox—recognise that the 2025 window represents the final opportunity to command a premium fee for a player who will turn 32 before his contract expires in June 2027.

Sources indicate that United will not stand in Fernandes’ way if an £87 million bid materialises, a valuation that would provide a significant cash injection for a midfield overhaul while acknowledging the difficulty of replacing a talisman whose creativity and goal threat have carried the team for four-and-a-half seasons.

Fernandes, who has previously attracted a £200 million three-year wage offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, is said to retain the ambition of winning major silverware in Europe. PSG and Bayern, both perennial domestic champions and Champions League contenders, are viewed as ideal destinations. A switch to the Parc des Princes would reunite him with compatriots Vitinha, Nuno Mendes and João Neves, while the Bavarians could offer a central role in their pursuit of a seventh European crown.

Former Liverpool and United striker Michael Owen has warned that replicating Fernandes’ output at Old Trafford would be “an impossible task,” underscoring the dilemma facing Ratcliffe and his team as they weigh the sporting void against the financial windfall.
