Woodbridge Township and Edison are set to share more than $2 million in federal Community Project Funding for 2026, U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. announced, paving the way for new recreational spaces and expanded senior services across Middlesex County.
Woodbridge will receive the larger share—$1.2 million—earmarked for three distinct projects. The township plans to build new playgrounds in the Hopelawn and Fords neighborhoods, addressing long-standing requests from parents and local civic groups for safe, modern play areas. In addition, a portion of the funds will finance a youth cricket field in Iselin, reflecting the area’s growing South Asian community and surging interest in the sport among local children and teenagers.
Edison’s allocation totals $850,000 and will be directed toward a major expansion of the Minnie B. Veal Community Center. Township officials say the project will enlarge the facility’s footprint, allowing for more senior wellness, educational, social, and recreational programming. The improvements are designed to accommodate Edison’s rapidly increasing senior population and to ensure the center remains accessible and inclusive for residents of all abilities.
Pallone secured both grants through the federal appropriations process, emphasizing that the investments will strengthen community bonds, promote healthy lifestyles, and enhance quality of life for residents young and old. Construction timelines have not been released, but municipal leaders in both communities pledged to move projects forward as soon as contractual details are finalized.
