Maguire and Mainoo: Contract renewal update will delight fans

Manchester United supporters are on course for a double dose of good news before the current campaign draws to a close, with the club pushing to finalise new deals for Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo.

England centre-back Maguire, whose contract is due to expire in June, has seen his future resolved after weeks of speculation. Serie A clubs enquired about a January move, only for caretaker head coach Michael Carrick to slam the door shut, restoring Maguire to the heart of defence and making him an ever-present since taking temporary charge. United have now verbally agreed a one-year extension, tying the 31-year-old to Old Trafford until 2027 and including an additional 12-month option that rests with the club.

The situation is equally encouraging for academy graduate Mainoo. Although his existing terms run to 2027, United are determined to reward the 19-year-old’s rapid emergence by adding four more years. Talks that had reportedly stalled under previous leadership have accelerated under Carrick, with the midfielder starting every match since the coaching change. Sources indicate the framework of a deal through to 2031 is all but complete.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the developments, stating: “Manchester United, with Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo returning from the national team, are now prepared to accelerate and formally close both new contracts for the players before the World Cup. This is the mission, before the end of the season, sign everything. With Kobbie Mainoo 2031 and with Harry Maguire to extend for one season until 2027, plus an option for one more year. The negotiation is already very advanced with Kobbie Mainoo, it is almost done with Harry Maguire, who will sign soon. Man United plan to announce everything before the end of the season.”

With Bruno Fernandes also in line for fresh terms, INEOS appear intent on securing the core of Carrick’s squad, ensuring stability at the Theatre of Dreams heading into the summer.
