Low-trust bullpen: Brewers sweep Sox in 9-7 comeback

Milwaukee, WI — A bullpen collapse in the seventh inning undid a night of hard-earned offense Sunday, allowing the Brewers to erase a four-run deficit and complete a three-game sweep with a 9-7 victory at American Family Field.
The White Sox appeared in control after tagging Milwaukee rookie Brandon Sproat for six early runs, including back-to-back homers by Munetaka Murakami and Everson Pereira that chased the touted right-hander after just four innings. Murakami’s blast was his third in as many games, making him only the fourth player in major-league history to homer in each of his first three contests.
Left-hander Anthony Kay, making his first big-league start since 2021, held the Brewers to three runs over 4 2/3 frames while touching 98 mph on the radar gun. Kay exited with a 7-3 lead, but the Sox relief corps could not finish the job.
Jordan Leasure surrendered a run in the sixth, and Chris Murphy recorded just one out in the seventh while loading the bases. Seranthony Domínguez entered for a five-out save attempt and promptly watched Luis Rengifo slice an RBI single and Christian Yelich lace a two-strike, two-run double off the wall to give Milwaukee its first lead.
Grant Taylor, who struck out the side on Tuesday, worked a scoreless eighth and fanned three more Brewers, but the damage was done. The loss drops the South Siders to 0-3 on the young season and leaves the club searching for answers in a bullpen that has already coughed up two late leads.
Chicago heads to Miami on Monday for a four-game set, with Davis Martin slated to make his 2026 debut opposite Marlins newcomer Chris Paddack. First pitch is scheduled for 5:40 p.m. CT.
