Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister in transfer 'u-turn': report

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has performed a subtle transfer U-turn, with his father Carlos Mac Allister now insisting the Argentine is “very happy and very comfortable” at Anfield despite long-standing speculation linking him with Real Madrid.
The 27-year-old World Cup winner has been repeatedly tipped for a future switch to La Liga, and Carlos previously described the Spanish giants’ interest as “nice” to hear. Speaking to Qatar-based outlet Win Win, however, the elder Mac Allister stressed that his son’s immediate focus is on Liverpool and the current campaign.
“What I can say at the moment is that Alexis is focused on Liverpool and the current season,” Carlos said, remarks relayed by SportWitness. “Alexis is very happy and very comfortable at Liverpool.”
The clarification marks a shift in tone after earlier comments were interpreted as encouragement for Madrid, whose pursuit was said to have been driven by former coach Carlo Ancelotti. With Ancelotti no longer at the Bernabéu, the link has cooled and Mac Allister’s camp is now sending “positive signals” of commitment to Merseyside.
Since arriving from Brighton & Hove Albion for £55 million in the summer of 2023, Mac Allister has become a midfield mainstay, racking up 95 appearances in his first two seasons. He started at least 30 Premier League matches in each of the last three campaigns and was a constant presence as Liverpool clinched the 2024-25 title under Arne Slot.
This season he has started 20 of the Reds’ 24 league fixtures and five of eight Champions League group-stage matches, scoring all three of his goals in Europe. Yet domestic results have faltered: Sunday’s loss to Manchester City leaves Liverpool sixth, eight points behind Aston Villa and chasing Chelsea and Manchester United for a top-four finish.
Mac Allister’s renewed pledge of loyalty will reassure fans as the club fights to secure Champions League qualification, while any lingering hopes Madrid held of luring the Argentine away appear shelved for the foreseeable future.
