Liverpool midfield ace has ‘always dreamt’ of playing for Real Madrid, claims national team coach

Dominik Szoboszlai’s future has become the subject of fresh speculation after Hungary head coach Marco Rossi claimed the Liverpool midfielder has “always” harboured ambitions of wearing the famous white shirt of Real Madrid.

Speaking to Hungarian outlet WinWin, Rossi—who has mentored Szoboszlai since childhood—revealed that the Santiago Bernabéu has long been the 25-year-old’s ultimate destination.

“Because of the very close and direct relationship I have with Dominik Szoboszlai since he started playing football as a child, Real Madrid has always been his dream,” Rossi said, in remarks carried by MARCA.

The revelation comes at a time when Szoboszlai has cemented himself as a central figure in Arne Slot’s Liverpool revolution. Since arriving from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023, the attacking midfielder has amassed 128 competitive appearances and contributed close to 50 goals and assists, emerging as a creative hub and an emerging leader inside the Anfield dressing room.

Yet Rossi was quick to temper expectations of an imminent switch to Spain, stressing that any transfer would hinge on both player and club. “I don’t know if he’ll be able to take that step, because the decision depends on him and also on his club,” he cautioned.

The Italian coach also left the door open to an extended stay on Merseyside, highlighting Liverpool’s global stature and Szoboszlai’s integral role within the squad. “I absolutely don’t rule out the possibility of him staying at Liverpool and renewing his contract there, especially because he’s highly valued within the club,” Rossi concluded.

For now, Szoboszlai remains fully committed to Liverpool’s pursuit of silverware on multiple fronts, but the admission from his long-time mentor ensures that the rumour mill linking him with a dream move to Madrid will continue to churn.
