Lewandowski: Only Genoa Ever Contacted Me Among Serie A Clubs

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has dismissed recent speculation linking him with Juventus and Milan, insisting that the only Italian club ever to approach him was Genoa—back in 2010, weeks before he opted to join Borussia Dortmund.
Speaking in Saturday’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport’s Sportweek, the Poland captain, whose contract expires at the end of the 2025-26 campaign, said he is fully focused on finishing the current season strongly and has made no decision on his next move.
“Honestly, today, there’s nothing to say. And I’m being honest,” Lewandowski told the magazine. “The goal is to get to the end of the season with as many wins, goals and titles as possible, then we’ll see. I’m not thinking about it and I haven’t decided. It’s not a priority at the moment.”
Italian media have suggested that both Milan and Juventus are monitoring the 37-year-old’s situation, inspired by the impact veteran Luka Modric has made at San Siro since arriving on a free transfer from Real Madrid last summer. Yet Lewandowski stressed that, beyond fleeting headlines, no concrete discussions have taken place with either club—or any other Serie A outfit since Genoa’s approach 16 years ago.
“In 2010, I was still in Poland and I was about to move to Borussia Dortmund. Genoa wanted to sign me, so they invited me to watch a match against Sampdoria,” he recalled. “I was curious to see what the club was like, the stadium, the atmosphere, and also to be fair to those who had shown an interest in me. I came to watch the derby at Marassi. It was the only time I’ve dealt with an Italian team.”
Despite the lack of recent contact, Lewandowski praised the current state of Italian football, noting the league’s competitiveness and European pedigree.
“I think the Italian league is very competitive,” he said. “It’s usually a fight and the same team doesn’t always win. Teams like Juventus and Inter have reached Champions League finals (in recent years), it doesn’t seem to be in a crisis if you’re asking me.”
For now, Lewandowski’s immediate priority remains delivering silverware for Barcelona rather than mapping out a post-Camp Nou future.
