Bayern Leverkusen are likely to take on Olympiacos on Tuesday without the services of Malik Tillman, coach Kasper Hjulmand confirmed on Monday. The 23-year-old midfielder sustained a blow to his right ankle in the third minute of Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Union Berlin and, despite completing the full match, departed the BayArena with a pronounced limp.
“It’s a bit difficult when it comes to Malik. It’s not yet fully decided (whether he can play) but it’s not looking good,” Hjulmand told reporters ahead of the Champions League knock-out play-off second leg. “We have a short training session and a medical check tomorrow, then we’ll decide.”
Leverkusen hold a commanding 2-0 lead from the first leg in Piraeus, yet Hjulmand stressed that the tie is far from over. “It’s a good result but it’s also dangerous to think it will be easy. It’s not easy. We’re taking this task very seriously,” he said.
The victor of the two-legged affair will advance to the round of 16, where either Bayern Munich or Arsenal await.
