Laporta lambasts Victor Font, questions Real Madrid’s win vs Celta – ‘Goal should have been disallowed’

Barcelona’s presidential race ignited on only its second day as Joan Laporta launched a scathing attack on rival candidate Victor Font, branding him a “technocrat” and warning that a Font victory would “lead Barcelona to ruin.”
Addressing supporters in a campaign event reported by Mundo Deportivo, the two-time president accused Font of reducing the club to algorithms, declaring, “Barcelona will be run by a computer, not by hearts.” Laporta insisted that Font’s approach lacks emotional connection, saying, “Font runs Barça on his computer, while the Barça we’ve all built is carried in our hearts, through hard work every day.”
The barbs intensified when Laporta turned to Font’s recent remarks about the Negreira case. “Not retracting his comments about Negreira’s Barça is obtuse, stubborn,” Laporta said. “If he doesn’t retract them, that’s his problem. He was out of line, it’s disrespectful to Barça fans.”
Laporta further alleged that Font’s manifesto is devoid of original thought. “His sporting proposal is neither present nor expected,” he claimed. “Most of the proposals he makes… he heard them there and then copied them onto his computer to claim them as his own.”
Pivoting to on-field matters, Laporta questioned the legitimacy of Real Madrid’s dramatic 2-1 mid-week win over Celta Vigo, arguing that the decisive goal should have been chalked off. “That final goal should have been disallowed because it was a foul beforehand,” he said. “It happened to us at Anoeta; Lamine scored and it was disallowed for a foul by Olmo. But some of us get the calls we want, others don’t. It’s always the same for Real Madrid. We all want luck, but there are people who help them get it.”
With campaigning now in full swing, Laporta’s opening salvo sets an acrimonious tone as both candidates seek to convince club members they are the rightful heirs to the Camp Nou throne.
