Kylian Mbappé forces PSG to yield
Paris, 3 January 2026 — Kylian Mbappé has tightened the screws on his former employer, and Paris Saint-Germain have blinked. After months of legal wrangling, the club quietly transferred roughly €4 million to the 2018 World-Cup winner this week, bowing to pressure applied by a court-appointed bailiff acting on behalf of the Real Madrid forward.
The payment chips away at the final €5.9 million PSG were ordered to hand over when the Paris labour tribunal ruled in Mbappé’s favour last December. That judgment covered unpaid salaries, bonuses, accrued holiday pay and interest, totalling €60.9 million. PSG had already paid €55 million, leaving the smaller—but symbolically significant—balance outstanding.
With the latest instalment, only €1.9 million remains unpaid, and lawyers close to the case expect the last cheque to be written within days, finally closing a dispute that has poisoned relations between the Qatari-backed club and its one-time star.
Yet one hurdle survives: PSG are pressing Mbappé to waive the tribunal’s requirement that the full judgment be displayed on the club’s official homepage for a month, a public mea culpa the forward is under no obligation to forgo. Until that point is settled, the legal saga will continue to cast a shadow over Parc des Princes corridors.
For now, Mbappé has succeeded where many players fail—forcing one of Europe’s richest clubs to meet its financial obligations in full, under the watchful eye of both the courts and the French sporting press.
