Juventus urged to snap up ‘strong and intelligent’ Robert Lewandowski from Barcelona
David Trezeguet has urged Juventus to move for Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season.
The former Bianconeri forward believes the Poland international, who will be 37 by the time his deal at Camp Nou runs down, remains “from another category” and would instantly solve the Turin club’s need for goals.
“I’m not going to go into whether Juve should renew Vlahovic or not, I’m focused on River Plate,” Trezeguet told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “I would sign Lewandowski for free, even at 37 years old: he is from another category, one of the last nine real players along with Haaland.”
Despite acknowledging that Lewandowski no longer possesses the physique of his peak years, Trezeguet pointed to the striker’s 14 goals for Barcelona this season as evidence of his enduring quality. “He is strong and intelligent,” the 2006 World Cup winner added. “Lewandowski would arrive at Juve knowing where he comes from and what is expected of him: goals. If the opportunity arose, I would take him to Turin myself.”
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has publicly stated his desire to retain the veteran forward, yet Lewandowski is not expected to clarify his future until the current campaign concludes. With speculation intensifying, Juventus could face competition for his signature, though no rival offers have been confirmed.
Trezeguet’s intervention adds weight to the growing chorus suggesting that a free-transfer swoop for Lewandowski would represent low-risk, high-reward business for the Serie A giants.
