Joan Laporta Reveals Why He Wants Robert Lewandowski to Stay for Another Season at Barcelona
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has underlined his desire to keep Robert Lewandowski at the club for at least one more season, praising the veteran striker’s enduring quality and the sacrifices he made to join the Catalans.
Speaking to SER, Laporta confirmed that the 37-year-old, whose current deal expires in June, has the club’s full backing should he choose to extend his stay.
“He’s a very talented player and a prolific goalscorer,” Laporta said. “As a token of my appreciation, I’d offer him another year on his contract. He came at a very difficult time, and despite his track record at Bayern, he pushed hard to come to Barça. He gave up a lot. We’ll see what he wants to do, but I’d like him to stay another year if he wants to.”
Lewandowski has indicated he will wait until the end of the 2025-26 campaign before deciding his future. While no longer an automatic starter under the current coaching regime, the Poland captain has still contributed 14 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions this season, underlining his value in front of goal.
With the summer transfer window approaching, optimism is growing inside the club about potential reinforcements, yet Laporta’s priority is clear: securing Lewandowski’s experience and predatory instinct for another year at Spotify Camp Nou.
