Great news for Liverpool as club ready to agree €70m sale

Liverpool are poised to secure one of the summer’s most coveted defensive signatures after indications emerged that RB Leipzig would accept an opening offer of €70 million for Castello Lukeba. The 23-year-old French centre-back, whose 2025–26 campaign has been highlighted by more than 1,900 minutes of Bundesliga action, nine clean sheets and a 91 percent passing accuracy, is understood to be open to a new challenge once the window opens.

Lukeba, who only recently returned from a minor knee complaint suffered in February, has re-established himself as the linchpin of Leipzig’s back line. His left-footed, ball-playing style and recovery pace have become central to the club’s push for a high domestic finish and continued European progression, attracting admiring glances from Real Madrid, Arsenal and Bayern Munich.

Although the defender’s contract runs until June 2029 and contains a release clause estimated between €80 million and €90 million, sources close to the negotiations say Leipzig are willing to enter talks at the €70 million mark. Should Liverpool formalise that figure, the deal would rank among the most expensive in history for a centre-back and signal a statement of intent from Anfield chiefs seeking to reinforce their defensive depth ahead of next season.
