Fabrizio Romano Update Hints at Major Liverpool Summer Overhaul

Liverpool’s season has drifted far deeper into disappointment than anyone at Anfield forecast, and renowned transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano now believes a summer shake-up on the wings is inevitable. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano stated plainly: “For Liverpool, I think it’s going to be a busy summer for wingers. It’s very clear that Liverpool need to reinforce their wingers – the situation with Mo Salah, Cody Gakpo. I think in general, Liverpool need to add something fresh in that position.”
The blunt assessment underlines what has become obvious on the pitch: Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo and even on-loan contributor Alexander Isak have all under-performed, leaving Arne Slot’s attack short of spark and goals. Whether the slump is down to Slot’s tactical tweaks or a wider confidence issue, the club’s hierarchy appear ready to act.
Romano poured cold water on one marquee name, however. Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise, long admired by Liverpool’s recruitment staff, is not seen as a viable target. “Bayern have no intention at all to let him go,” Romano explained. “Bayern don’t even want to negotiate… there is no release clause in his contract now, and so the situation remains under control for Bayern.”
Attention will therefore switch to alternative wide reinforcements. The club are tracking Ivorian prodigy Yan Diomande, while Mateus Mane is another emerging talent believed to be within financial reach. Romano stresses that deals at this stage are speculative – “there’s obviously no guarantees that anything even gets over the line” – yet the expectation of movement is concrete.
Compounding the need for fresh blood is the fitness record of current squad members. Alexander Isak and teenage centre-back Giovanni Leoni have spent the majority of the campaign sidelined; their eventual returns will mimic the impact of new signings, but the squad still lacks depth and dynamism on the flanks.
With Bayern slamming the door on Olise and Liverpool’s established wide options misfiring, Romano’s verdict points to a defining transfer window ahead. Anfield insiders will hope that targeted, realistic acquisitions can reignite a season that never truly caught fire.
