Barcelona presidential candidate Xavi Vilajoana says he has already opened talks with Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane and believes the England captain would “fit in perfectly” at Camp Nou should he win the club’s upcoming elections.

Speaking to ESPN after initially floating the idea on social media, Vilajoana confirmed that exploratory discussions have taken place and stressed that Kane’s versatility makes him an ideal target for the Blaugrana.
“In fact, we’ve already made some contact, and I think he’s a player who would be a great fit, pending his contractual situation: it’s Harry Kane,” Vilajoana said. “Kane is a centre-forward who would fit in perfectly with our style of play. He’s a striker who is capable of dropping back to link up with his teammates. He is also capable of playing as a pure No.9, a killer, a finisher.”
The presidential hopeful highlighted Kane’s movement and effectiveness against deep-lying defences as qualities that would “add a lot of value to Barcelona’s game,” adding that the 30-year-old “likes Barcelona,” a sentiment he suggested is widespread among elite players.
Beyond the pursuit of a marquee striker, Vilajoana outlined plans to reinforce the defence, arguing that a seasoned centre-back is required to offset the squad’s youthful profile.
“I think a good centre-back is needed as well. I’m not saying that the ones we have aren’t good, but a centre-back who can balance out the youth and inexperience,” he noted. “With these two signings, and with what we have coming up through the ranks, with what we already have in the team, we wouldn’t need to make so many changes.”
Kane’s name has featured prominently in election rhetoric, alongside that of Julian Alvarez, as candidates race to promise high-profile reinforcements ahead of the vote. With the striker reportedly eager to join “a team that can be champions,” the coming weeks are likely to bring further speculation linking Europe’s top talents with a move to Catalonia.
