Barcelona have confirmed that teenage defender Dani Rodriguez faces a three-month lay-off after sustaining a partial rupture of the quadriceps tendon in his right leg during last weekend’s Barcelona Atletic fixture against Barbastro. Rodriguez, who was stretchered off in that match, will be treated conservatively after the club elected against surgical intervention.

A brief medical bulletin issued on Monday read: “Barça Atlètic player Dani Rodriguez has a partial rupture of the quadriceps tendon in his right leg. He will undergo conservative treatment and the expected recovery time is around three months.”

The prognosis rules the 19-year-old out of action until May, effectively ending his prospects of further appearances this season for Juliano Belletti’s fifth-placed side, who remain in the promotion hunt. Rodriguez, currently on a loan deal that can be converted into a permanent transfer, now faces a race against time to regain fitness before the campaign closes.
