‘Amazing’ Archie Gray praised by Igor Tudor for doing ‘this’ in the last ‘four games’

Tottenham interim manager Igor Tudor has singled out 20-year-old Archie Gray for special praise, labelling the versatile youngster “amazing” after deploying him in four different positions across the last four matches.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s daunting trip to Liverpool, Tudor revealed the scale of the injury and suspension crisis that will force him to reshuffle his defence once again. Cristian Romero and Joao Palhinha are ruled out under concussion protocols following a sickening clash of heads in Wednesday’s 5-2 Champions League loss at Atlético Madrid, while Micky van de Ven is suspended after his red card against Crystal Palace. Yves Bissouma is nursing an unspecified “problem” and Conor Gallagher is battling illness, leaving the Spurs boss short of senior options.

Gray, a Durham-born England Under-21 international, has emerged as the unlikely constant amid the chaos. “Four games here, four positions for Archie Gray,” Tudor told reporters. “He’s an amazing player, but that’s been that. Something’s wrong. Beautiful guy, beautiful player. I didn’t know him before so much, so from inside, he has my big respect.”

The teenager’s adaptability has seen him feature as both a wing-back and, more recently, as part of a back three. With Romero and Van de Ven unavailable, Gray is expected to slot in alongside Kevin Danso and Radu Dragusin in a three-man defence at Anfield, though Tudor conceded he is still searching for the right balance in a campaign that has veered from one setback to another.
