Alternate dates with Spa offer Barcelona reprieve on F1 calendar
Barcelona, Oct. 17, 2025 — The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has secured its place on the Formula 1 calendar through 2032 after striking a deal that will see the venue alternate with Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps, series chief Stefano Domenicali confirmed on Thursday.
Although Madrid will host this year’s Spanish Grand Prix, Barcelona’s home track will rebrand as the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix and stage races in 2028, 2030 and 2032 under the new rotational agreement.
“Barcelona is an incredible city, and the Formula 1 fans there always welcome us with such passion, so I am delighted that we will continue to race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for years to come,” said Domenicali, F1 president and CEO, during a news conference at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.
Domenicali praised the venue’s recent investments and fan-focused initiatives, noting: “The team have invested heavily in the circuit and hosted fantastic fan festivals in recent years, so we look forward to seeing how they continue to develop the experience, both for attendees at the race and for the city as a whole.”
The announcement ensures that one of Europe’s most storied circuits retains a presence on the schedule even after Madrid’s arrival as Spain’s primary Grand Prix host. The 2026 season will open with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 8.
