Robert Lewandowski sets personal goal target to trigger Barcelona contract talks

Barcelona’s veteran striker Robert Lewandowski has reportedly attached a concrete number to his hopes of remaining at the Camp Nou: ten more goals before the final whistle of the season. With his current deal winding down and no extension on the table, the 37-year-old is said to believe that reaching double digits in the season’s closing stretch could persuade the club to retain him.

Polish journalist Mateusz Borek told the Moc Futbolu program that Lewandowski “would be thinking that if he scores 10 goals between now and the end of the season, Barça could offer him a new contract.” The revelation comes amid mounting uncertainty over the forward’s future. Barcelona have yet to signal whether they will extend his stay, and any offer is expected to hinge on the player accepting a reduction in wages.

Off-field factors appear to strengthen Lewandowski’s desire to remain in Catalonia. Borek notes that the striker’s wife has launched several businesses in Barcelona, the family recently moved into a new house, and their children are settled at school. While lucrative approaches—described as “a very good economic offer from the Chicago Fire” and prospective bids from the Middle East—are waiting in the wings, Lewandowski is prioritising continuity in Spain.

The challenge is steep. Lewandowski has registered 13 goals in 31 appearances this campaign and is currently mired in a barren run. With only weeks remaining and crucial fixtures looming, he must rediscover his scoring rhythm to hit the self-imposed target that, in his view, could unlock a fresh agreement.

Barcelona’s technical secretary, Deco, is meanwhile engaged in parallel negotiations, meeting representatives of an unnamed English forward as the club explores attacking reinforcements and contingency plans should Lewandowski depart on a free transfer.
