Pedro Neto Suspended as Chelsea Prepare for Newcastle Clash

Chelsea will be without Pedro Neto for tomorrow’s Premier League meeting with Newcastle at Stamford Bridge after the Football Association extended the winger’s ban to two matches, ruling him out of the contest.
The Portugal international was initially set to serve a one-match suspension following his sending-off against Arsenal a fortnight ago. Neto received a first-half caution for dissent and was later dismissed after a reckless challenge on Gabriel Martinelli and an ensuing confrontation with referee. The FA has now added an extra game to the sanction, keeping the 24-year-old on the sidelines for the Magpies’ visit.
Neto’s absence compounds a difficult week for Liam Rosenior’s side, who are still digesting a heavy midweek defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. The winger featured prominently in both of those matches, completing the full 90 minutes against PSG after playing 100 minutes in the victory over Wrexham.
Chelsea do have ready-made replacements. Alejandro Garnacho is expected to step into the starting role, while Jamie Gittens has returned to full training and is nearing a comeback from injury, giving the Blues additional depth on the flank.
Rosenior faced questions over his substitutions in the PSG loss, waiting until after the 80-minute mark to make changes despite the lopsided scoreline. He also defended midfielder Enzo Fernandez, who was seen criticizing goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen after the Dane’s second mistake of the night.
With Neto unavailable, Rosenior must now shuffle his pack quickly to keep pace in the race for European qualification.
