Pedri addresses injury concern surrounding Barcelona superstar: ‘It’s a sad situation’

Barcelona midfielder Pedri has spoken candidly about the hamstring setback that will sideline club-mate Raphinha for up to six weeks, describing the timing of the injury as “a sad situation” while defending the intensity required during international duty.
The Brazil winger was hurt while representing his country during the recent break, and news of the lay-off has cast a shadow over the Catalans’ preparations for the run-in. Speaking after Spain’s goalless draw with Egypt, Pedri made it clear that lowering the tempo is never an option at elite level.
“It’s a sad situation for him or anyone to be injured, especially if they play for my team,” Pedri told reporters. “But I can tell you: You can’t play at half intensity. You’re three times more likely to get injured. It’s the worst thing you can do as a footballer. Sadly, injuries are part of football. If they have to happen, then they will.”
The 21-year-old’s assessment underlines the delicate balance national-team coaches face between competitiveness and player welfare, yet Pedri rejected any suggestion that Raphinha’s problem could have been easily avoided.
Away from the injury issue, Pedri offered an upbeat appraisal of Spain’s prospects heading toward the FIFA World Cup. A new wave of talent has heightened expectations, but the Canary Islander insists the squad is blocking out the noise.
“We all know that Spain is one of the clear candidates because we have very good results and a great generation of players,” he said. “But we don’t focus on that, we focus on winning each match and improving day by day, and I believe we can achieve something beautiful.”
With Raphinha now facing a race to regain fitness before the club season reaches its climax, Barcelona’s medical staff will monitor his rehabilitation closely, while Pedri and his international colleagues turn their attention to the next phase of Spain’s World Cup qualification campaign.
